Course Overview

The course is aimed at people working in a production, design, technical or supervisory capacity within the engineering industry who wish to gain higher qualifications.

The course is also suitable for those who do not currently work in the industry but wish to further their studies whilst working elsewhere.

The BTEC HNC Diploma is a specialist vocational programme with a strong work related emphasis. The qualification provides a thorough grounding in the key concepts and maths skills required to progress to senior/technical positions in the sector, and holds national recognition by employers.

Qualification
BTEC Higher National Certificate in Engineering

Normally you would be expected to have a BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in an engineering subject or an appropriate combination of the following:

  • AVCE/GNVQ in an appropriate vocational area

  • GCE A-Level profile which demonstrates strong performance in maths/physics subjects

  • Other related Level 3 qualifications

  • Related work experience

Prosp User 2

This is a part-time course over two years. Each unit is internally assessed, mostly with assignments and graded by lecturers. Grades awarded are Pass, Merit or Distinction.

The course is made up of both compulsory units and specialist units that enable you to study particular areas in depth.

COMPULSORY UNITS:

  • Analytical methods for engineers

  • Engineering science

  • Engineering project

SPECIALIST UNITS:

  • Mechanical principles

  • Dynamics of machines

  • Fluid mechanics

  • Management of projects

  • Engineering design

upon completion of this course students can progress onto an HND, Foundation Degree or undergraduate degree programme in a relevant subject area. Some students will continue straight into employment or further, more specialist study.
