Are you a hands-on innovator who likes to take an idea from a piece of paper and bring it to life? If so, you are the perfect person to study our Level 1 Certificate in Engineering.

This course is taught at our Middleton Campus in Middleton, Greater Manchester. In particular, it’s located in our state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Centre.

The building is one of the most sought-after places for trades-based training in the region – featuring 6,500 square-metres of the newest and most cutting edge equipment.

Our Engineering workshops are amongst the most impressive parts of the facility, giving you access to all the tools, machinery and equipment needed to take your first steps into this exciting sector.

Under the guidance of our expert tutors who have worked in the industry themselves, you’ll develop the basic knowledge and hand skills required to progress to the next stage of study.

In addition, you’ll gain valuable skills such as welding and assembling electronic circuits through a broad range of practical and classroom study.

This will ultimately give you the ideal grounding to confidently progress onto the Level 2 qualification.

Qualification
Certificate in Engineering
  • 4 GCSEs grade 3 and above, preferably to include English Language and Maths

Entrants who do not have a grade 3 or above in English and Maths will have the opportunity to attain these at the college.

Prosp User 2

You'll study a wide range of units which are designed to give you the perfect foundation for a career in Engineering.

The following topics will provide you with a strong portfolio of evidence to progress onto the next level of study:

  • Working safely in an engineering environment

  • Carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively

  • Using and communicating technical information

  • Producing components using hand fitting techniques

  • MIG welding

  • Assembly and testing electronic circuits

Prosp User 3

There is no specific work experience required or undertaken for this course. However, the engineering workshop is designed to replicate a workplace environment and will allow you to feel comfortable in a professional setting.

Prosp User 4

Following completion of the course, you will be able to progress onto a Level 2 qualification. You will also be able to pursue alternative opportunities if you prefer, including an apprenticeship or a traineeship.
