Do you speak English and another language? Would you like to use your language skills to help your linguistic community in enabling communication in UK and accessing services? If the answer is ‘yes’, then this course is for you!

This course is the first step in preparing you for work as a community interpreter. Level 1 Award in Community Interpreting is a portfolio based vocational course, which offers an opportunity to acquaint yourself with the basics of linguistic awareness and theoretical framework of community interpreter’s role.

The aim of this qualification is to enable learners to:

  • To learn how to use language skills to the best of their ability and knowledge – giving awareness how language changes depending on the situation;

  • To explore the voluntary and public sectors in the UK where interpreters are required to work;

  • To learn about the role of a community interpreter.

The college has excellent facilities which support different kinds of learning to include classroom-based, online and independent. Learners will have full access to IT facilities as necessary and the college virtual learning environment (VLE). All units are internally assessed through the learner building up a portfolio of evidence that covers the relevant assessment criteria. They are internally assessed and verified by the centre and then externally verified by Ascentis.
