Course Overview

This course can be studied as part of a full-time Access to Higher Education programme or part-time in the evenings on its own.

The core content of this course includes exciting, relevant topics such as cellular structure, response to infection, ecology, and plant science. As part of the course you will study theory interspersed with ten practical sessions. These ten laboratory sessions are integral to your learning and will help you to place the theory into context.

GCSE (9-1) in Biology
Few formal qualifications are needed to study this course but an interest or some relatively recent experience of science or biology would be useful. As part of the interview process, you will be spoken to individually about your suitability for the course and asked to sit a short assessment. Prosp User 2
The course includes both theory taught in a classroom setting and practical sessions.

You will sit two written papers at the end of the course around May/June. Each paper will constitute 50% of your final grade.

Inheritance, variation and evolution

Although there are no specific work experience placements, there is a combination of theory and practical classes in our purpose built science laboratories. Prosp User 4
Upon completion of this course learners are able to progress onto further study to gain employment within many possible career areas including: teaching, laboratory technician, forensics, analytical scientist, anthropologist, scenes of crime officer or roles in any of the following fields: biomedical science, pharmacy, microbiology or radiography.
