This course is aimed at people who work or who wish to work in the TV and Film industries. You apply for this course through UCAS using the code PP32.

This course is aimed at people who work or who wish to work in the TV and Film industries. Units focus on the creative and technical aspects of TV and film. When undertaking practical assessments, you are expected to perform to an industry standard and use your own initiative to research required topics. The programme is designed to prepare you for employment in the exciting world of TV and Film and its related industries such as audio production, broadcast, marketing and PR. You will also undertake many industry related enrichment visits such as post production houses, film and TV sets and tours to enhance your learning experience.

Qualification

Qualification
BTEC Higher National Certificate in Film and Television

80 UCAS tariff points which could include:

  • 1 or more A Level

  • BTEC Level 3

  • NVQ Level 3

  • VRQ Level 3

  • Access programme

GCSE English and maths at Grade C/4 or above

Mature students can apply with no formal qualifications but must have a minimum of three years relevant industry experience.

Specialist units will develop your skills, knowledge and understanding relevant to specific creative activities in TV and film production and in the creation of your own professional portfolio. They include:

HNC (year 1)

  • Individual Project (Pearson Set)

  • Creative Media Industry

  • Professional Practise

  • Film and Television Practises (Industry)

  • Film Studies (Film Theory)

  • Light and Sound (Production design)

  • Film and Video Editing(Post Production)

  • Audio Technologies (Post Production)

  • Field Trips and Industry talks

There is also the opportunity for suitable students to undertake work experience with local businesses and companies. This is an exciting opportunity to enhance your portfolio and gain creative experience in the development of commercial products and to develop content for external clients as part of work experience and portfolio building.

Prosp User 4

Learners who achieve the HNC qualification can progress onto the second year of a HND or onto the second year of a relevant degree course. Upon completion of the 2-year HND learners can top-up to a full degree in TV film production, broadcast. Or other relevant subject area. Employment and self-employment in the games/media sector is also an option and is an essential element of the course structure.
