Course Overview

Functional Skills English courses are ideal for adults wishing to refresh their skills. These qualifications will help you progress on to GCSE, other further education, or may help you gain employment. Courses take place at our Rochdale campus where we have both daytime and evening classes available. Once you have completed an online application, you will be invited into college for an assessment.

Open Entry Requirements

Before you enrol, we will make sure you are directed to the right level of course for you through an English assessment/interview. You should be able to state which skills you wish to improve, have clear goals you wish to achieve and be able to work independently.

If English is not your first language, you may need to complete ESOL qualifications before progressing onto these qualifications.

Functional Skills English courses aim to build on your current skills and to focus on the skills needed to help you succeed in everyday work and social situations.

We offer Functional Skills English qualifications at Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2. You will study a range of topics to develop your knowledge and skills in reading, writing and speaking and listening.

Open Progression

Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a Functional Skills qualification in English at either Entry Level or Level 1. You may then progress to the next level of English, a different GCSE course, or other further education courses.
