Course Overview

Functional Skills Maths courses are ideal for adults wishing to refresh and improve their skills. These qualifications will help you progress on to GCSE, other further educational programs or may help you gain employment.

Courses take place at our Rochdale campus and we have both daytime and evening classes available. Please complete an online application or attend one of our Open Days to complete a skills assessment.

Open Entry Requirements

Before you enrol, we will make sure you are directed to the right level of course for you through a Maths assessment/interview. You should be able to state which skills you wish to improve, have clear goals you wish to achieve and be able to work independently. All students must take a Maths assessment which is required to find the right study level for each applicant.

These courses cover practical Maths skills including:

  • Calculating with whole numbers

  • Fractions and percentages

  • Ratios and scale

  • Measuring shape and space

  • Using statistics

  • Presenting data

Task based activities will allow you to practice these in real life scenarios. Your progress will be regularly reviewed with your tutor.

Open Progression

Upon successful completion of your Functional Skills course, you will receive a qualification at either Entry Level or Level 1. You may then progress to the next level of Maths, a different GCSE course, or other further education courses.
