Course Overview

An Accounts/Finance Assistant is an integral part of the team responsible for maintaining an efficient and

accurate finance function within a business. The Accounts/ Finance Assistant is responsible for assisting the team of accountants with junior accounting duties. These can vary massively depending on the team structure and size of business.

An Accounts/Finance Assistant’s work could include basic bookkeeping activities, working with sales and purchase ledgers, running calculations to ensure that records and payments are correct, recording of cash and data entry.

On an apprenticeship programme, apprentices will learn and develop a range of knowledge, skills and behaviours. These include:

• Understand how accounting systems and processes allows a business to keep track of all types of financial

transactions

• Understand the cost recording system within an organisation

• Understands the importance of the need to keep uptodate with relevant policies, procedures, regulatory

or system changes

• Deals effectively with a range of stakeholders using appropriate communication methods to deliver

accurate and timely results

• Ability to organise self, prioritise workload/activity to meet deadlines

• Ability to maintain the security of accounting information using passwords and other appropriate

security measures

• Customer focused

• Professionalism

• Team working

End point Assessment:

Apprentices without Level 1 English and Maths will need to achieve prior to taking the end-point assessment/ The apprentice must complete all elements of the on programme learning to achieve the assessment gateway requirements. The EPA consists of 2 assessment methods:

• Structured Interview

• In-tray Test

Off the job training:

As part of the apprenticeship there is a dedicated off the job learning requirement. This is a minimum of 6 hours

per week for the duration of the apprenticeship.

Role development:

• Observing colleagues

• Receiving mentoring

• Shadowing

• Training

Programme Development:

• Teaching or learning the theory related to their roles

• Coursework

Progression from this apprenticeship could be into a Level 3 Assistant Accountant apprenticeship.
