Course Overview

Electricians install, maintain and repair electrical systems in industrial, commercial and domestic environments.

Installation Electricians work on the installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of low voltage (less than

1000v) electrical and electronic devices and appliances.

Maintenance Electricians work on the maintenance of electrical and electronic installations including automated

production systems.

Electrotechnical Qualification

English and Maths GCSE's grades 4/C or above or equivalent. Individual employers may have their own higher entry requirements.

Prosp User 2

On an apprenticeship programme, you will learn and develop a range of knowledge, skills and behaviours. These include:

• Understand and apply the principles, practices and legislation for the termination and connection of conductors, cables and cords in electrical systems

• Understand and apply the principles of planning and selection for the installation of electrotechnical equipment and systems in buildings, structures and the environment

• Understand and apply the practices and procedures for planning and preparing to maintain electrotechnical

systems and equipment

• Apply Health, Safety and Environmental Considerations

• Apply Design and Installation Practices and Procedures

• Apply Maintenance Practices and Procedures

• Team working

• Adaptability

• Takes repsonsibility

End Point Assessment:

Apprentices without Level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this prior to taking the end-point assessment. The apprentice must complete all elements of the on programme learning to achieve the assessment gateway requirements. The EPA consists of 1 assessment method:

As part of the apprenticeship there is a dedicated off the job learning requirement. This is a minimum of 6 hours per week for the duration of the apprenticeship. This could include:

Role Development:

• Observing colleagues

• Receiving mentoring

• Shadowing

• Training

Programme Development:

• Teaching or learning the theory related to their roles

• Coursework

Prosp User 4

On completion of this standard, apprentices can progress into a wide range of employment opportunities or further education.
